Rush

What is rush?

The process of joining a fraternity or sorority commonly begins with a "formal recruitment" period, called rush. At UIC, this consists of the first three weeks of each semester. During this time, we arrange daily events designed for members and potential members to learn about each other and our organization. At the end of the formal recruitment period, we give "bids," or invitations to become a pledge in our fraternity.

Why Rush Phi Kappa Psi?

Leadership Positions - With nine elected officers as well as more than ten other positions, there are many chances to get involved with and to become a leader in the chapter. One of our members is the President of the Interfraternity Council (IFC). Leadership is not limited to the Chapter, but other bodies as well.

Service Opportunities - There are many opportunities each semester to get involved in the community and to experience "the great joy of serving others".

Tight Brotherhood - Not only will you make lifelong friends within the chapter, but you will also share a bond with Phi Psi's across the country. There is another Phi Kappa Psi Chapter located a few miles north of UIC at DePaul University.

Long History and Tradition - Phi Psi was founded in 1852 and has initiated almost 120,000 men.

No Hazing - The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity has a national edict enforcing a strict no hazing policy. You will never be hazed, asked to do anything inappropriate or anything that will make you feel uncomfortable.

Accredited with Distinction - The IL Theta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi is one of the top 10 Phi Psi Chapters in the Nation. We have exceeded national expectations twice in a row.

Lifetime Involvement - Brothers of Phi Kappa Psi are brothers for life with many ways to stay involved and no additional fee after graduation. You can travel all over the country to meet brothers during Leadership Camps every year. We travel to our headquarters in Indianapolis, IN once a year for an elegant initiation ceremony. We also have the opportunity to travel to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico once a year, with airfare as the only expense.
